World Blood Donor Day
Yes, I know this might be a rather unusual blog subject, but it’s something that I find important. Today is World Blood Donor Day, which is a global celebration of voluntary blood donors, and also a day for creating awareness of the importance of donating blood. Many people have a desire to help others, but it’s often hard to find the right opportunity. Well, this is your chance. Most healthy people can give blood, and it’s a really great way of helping others. It really does not cost you anything at all, since your body replaces the blood you donate, and you also get your blood checked for various things, including hemoglobin levels, which can be practical.
Half a litre of blood can save up to three people, and it is estimated that 4.5 million Americans would die each year without blood transfusion. Since I’m a blood donor myself, I can confirm that voluntary blood donation is a great thing. You come to the hospital, get free soda, someone who really knows how to do it sticks a needle in your arm, you give some blood, and voila, you’ve saved lives in less than an hour without jumping in front of cars. So, all you healthy young individuals over the age of 18, how about saving some lives? For more information, visit the World Blood Donor Day website.

I think this is something that I definitely want to do during this summer holiday. Have to find some time and courage first. Last time somebody took my blood, I fainted. I’m not scared of needles though…

I really want to donate blood, but I’m still under eighteen, so I’m going to have to wait another few months.

This is a great read! I hope almost all of us in the blogosphere can write various things like this. When I reach eighteen, I’ll donate some blood to help.

I tried to donate blood in high school but my iron was too low.
I can’t even remember my blood type anymore.
We tested our blood in biology to figure it out.

Aw man, you guys get soda?
Here in Australia, they just give you crappy watered-down cordial and biscuits…sounds like you guys have it better off!

I wish I could donate blood but since I’m taking two different kinds of medicines it is in my blood and I can’t donate.
