Hello holidays, good bye homework

Category: My life

Jun 17

Hurray, the holidays are here! After three years of High school, it feels really weird to be finished, I’ve been waiting for this so long and then in an instant it’s over. Suddenly I find myself standing before an ocean of free time, and I can’t wait to dive into it. One thing that I find interesting is how quickly your daily routine can change during a holiday. During a revision period, I would be thrilled to have an evening without homework, whereas now I can sleep for 10 hours and be lazy all day without thinking about it. It’ll be weird not to have that voice in my head that says “shouldn’t you be doing some more homework?” all the time. What I look forward to the most is that now I can do the things I usually don’t have time for, like watching lots of episodes of my favourite TV-shows, work on my design and coding skills, practice violin properly etc. The only thing I don’t like about this holiday is that I don’t have a job, which would be nice to have, and since many of my friends are working I feel a bit left out. World Blood Donor Day

Blood Donation logoYes, I know this might be a rather unusual blog subject, but it’s something that I find important. Today is World Blood Donor Day, which is a global celebration of voluntary blood donors, and also a day for creating awareness of the importance of donating blood. Many people have a desire to help others, but it’s often hard to find the right opportunity. Well, this is your chance. Most healthy people can give blood, and it’s a really great way of helping others. It really does not cost you anything at all, since your body replaces the blood you donate, and you also get your blood checked for various things, including hemoglobin levels, which can be practical. Summer is here

Finally, summer has come to what seemed like the land of endless cold. It’s been warm and sunny for a week now, and I even went swimming outside today for the first time this year. What I love most about summer though is the air, it just feels and smells totally different, and it’s like you can breathe in a totally different way. I’ve been taking some lovely walks around our local lake, and since my camera decided to work after all, I took some photos which you can view here. The ducks were very sweet, I was able to get really close to them, and after a while they even started following me. image of duckThat was quite funny, as I imagined coming home followed by a pack of ducks, but they lost interest when they discovered that I didn’t have any food. Later I discovered some adorable ducklings swimming around on the lake, I need to get a picture of those as well. Continue reading Summer is here

What I like about the internet

May 28

There is no doubt about it, I depend on the internet in my everyday life. I still remember the time when we had a dial-up connection, and I wonder how I managed to get by. I’ve come to realize that it is only through being able to use internet as much as I want that I’ve discovered how much you can benefit from it. So, here is a small list of what I like about it. Homage to chocolate ice cream

Category: My life

May 4

I’ve noticed that people on American TV shows often eat ice cream as comfort food. Well, what can I say, I ate some chocolate ice cream today, just because I wanted to, even before dinner, and it felt great. I actually heard from a chemist that chocolate contains the same molecule that’s in the chemical which is released in your brain when you fall in love. Now, before you head towards your nearest source of those nice molecules, I should tell you that according to the chemist, you need to eat several kilos of chocolate to get any effect. Well, I have to point out that my experiments disagree with this, so if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to get the chocolate sauce.

How stupid do you think I am?

So, I tried to find this song I wanted on MSN Music today. I know, I shouldn’t be using it, but seeing as I don’t have an iPod and I don’t live in the US, it’s actually my only choice. The funny thing is that when I opened the site, innocently awaiting the familiar front page, I get the following message instead. “You do not have access to MSN Music. You need the following to access this web page…”. Now, this usually doesn’t happen to me when I browse, and so when I saw this message, I felt my pulse starting to race, worrying if there is something wrong with my beloved computer, or even worse, something wrong with the Internet. As my eyes race down the page, desperately searching for a solution to this sudden and brutal dismissal, I suddenly notice a point on the page. As the truth sinks in, I’m not sure whether to be relieved, irritated or just laugh. Continue reading How stupid do you think I am?

A very special egg

I was in Oslo this weekend for an event, it was great fun, and I also got to experience the city from a slightly new perspective. You see, one of the things we did during the weekend was to have this competition where we had to solve different tasks. One of them was to sell an egg to some person we met on the street. Now, try to guess how much you could get for a normal egg on the street. One of our groups sold it for 303 Kr (about 37 Euro or 50 USD), which I find quite amazing. This was done by selling the egg several times in pubs and other public places, and at one point the group actually got up on a stage and sang for the whole audience. Oddly enough, nobody seemed to actually want the egg afterwards, despite paying for it. Continue reading A very special egg

Good old music

Category: My life, Technology

Apr 10

I’ve discovered that I always seem to listen to the same music. Well, there isn’t anything wrong with that, the problem is just that because I listen to music almost all the time, I’m afraid of hearing the same songs so often that I get sick of them. I feel that this is happening with some of my favourite music, which is not good. The problem is that when I find new music that I like, I listen to it so often that soon it isn’t new anymore.
