How stupid do you think I am?

So, I tried to find this song I wanted on MSN Music today. I know, I shouldn’t be using it, but seeing as I don’t have an iPod and I don’t live in the US, it’s actually my only choice. The funny thing is that when I opened the site, innocently awaiting the familiar front page, I get the following message instead. “You do not have access to MSN Music. You need the following to access this web page…”. Now, this usually doesn’t happen to me when I browse, and so when I saw this message, I felt my pulse starting to race, worrying if there is something wrong with my beloved computer, or even worse, something wrong with the Internet. As my eyes race down the page, desperately searching for a solution to this sudden and brutal dismissal, I suddenly notice a point on the page. As the truth sinks in, I’m not sure whether to be relieved, irritated or just laugh. Continue reading How stupid do you think I am?

Coding and such

It has occurred to me that a great deal of the sites I come across are stressing the importance of having good coding and a user friendly site, and yet so many of the premade website and blogging systems (don’t even get me started on MySpace) seem to completely ignore this. Now, I know that many people don’t see the point of following web standards, and at some level I understand this view, coding is made for displaying web sites, so if it displays what you want it to, it’s good, right? A very special egg

I was in Oslo this weekend for an event, it was great fun, and I also got to experience the city from a slightly new perspective. You see, one of the things we did during the weekend was to have this competition where we had to solve different tasks. One of them was to sell an egg to some person we met on the street. Now, try to guess how much you could get for a normal egg on the street. One of our groups sold it for 303 Kr (about 37 Euro or 50 USD), which I find quite amazing. This was done by selling the egg several times in pubs and other public places, and at one point the group actually got up on a stage and sang for the whole audience. Oddly enough, nobody seemed to actually want the egg afterwards, despite paying for it. Continue reading A very special egg

Good old music

I’ve discovered that I always seem to listen to the same music. Well, there isn’t anything wrong with that, the problem is just that because I listen to music almost all the time, I’m afraid of hearing the same songs so often that I get sick of them. I feel that this is happening with some of my favourite music, which is not good. The problem is that when I find new music that I like, I listen to it so often that soon it isn’t new anymore. Holidays upside down

Now, why is it that holidays and weekends always seem to be designed in a way that does not fit your needs? On weekends, I always plan to do this and this on Saturday, and then have a nice rest on Sunday. It always turns out that I’m too tired from the week to get much done on Saturday, and I end up stressing on Sunday because soon it will be Monday again. And lo and behold, the Easter holiday seems to present the same problem. I was pretty tired at the start of the holidays, but by now I’m feeling somewhat rested and ready to start working. Then I realize, this is exactly the time when the real holiday starts, this is the time where I should be with my family, not do homework. The world just doesn’t seem to fit my schedule. Pursuing your passion

Some of the people I admire the most are the ones that have a true passion for something, they know what they are born to do and devote their life to this. Every time I see or hear about such a person, I can’t help but be amazed. Of course, the people who do those things often have to sacrifice a lot to pursue their passion, some of them can’t handle the pressure or break down. Still, there must be a great sense of satisfaction in knowing what you’re supposed to do with your life, to have something that’s your drive, your goal, your love and desire. Normally, these people don’t have room for what we call a normal life, but often they don’t want it either, they enjoy being special and unique. Continue reading Pursuing your passion
